The best coworking arrangement in Medellín is the one that supports your actual working day. A beautiful lounge is not much help when you need three hours of private calls. A low monthly membership may be poor value if you spend a large part of the morning getting there.
Instead of presenting an unverified ranking of venues, this guide gives you a repeatable way to compare a coworking space, a private office and the workstation in your accommodation. Use it before buying a membership or booking a month-long stay.
Choose the work format first
- Mostly focused, individual work: test a quiet shared desk and the accommodation’s desk. Noise and seating may matter more than access to events.
- Client calls throughout the day: ask about bookable rooms, booth limits and extra charges. “Calls allowed” is not the same as reliable privacy.
- Two people sharing an apartment: check whether both can work and speak at the same time without using a bedroom as a meeting room.
- A short exploratory trip: start with a day pass or a trial arrangement, if the provider offers one, before committing to a month.
Be honest about your schedule. A sociable space can be enjoyable without being the right place to handle confidential calls. Conversely, a quiet apartment can work well for focused days but provide little separation between work and rest.
Run a working-day test, not just a speed test
Ask permission to test the connection from the desk you would actually use. Join a normal video call, upload a representative file and test the tools your employer allows you to use. Repeat at a busy time if possible. A speed-test screenshot from reception says little about congestion, wireless coverage or an intermittent connection at another desk.
Ask what happens during an outage. Is there a second connection? Who handles a fault? Is backup power available, and for which equipment? Do not infer those features from the words “business center” or “high-speed internet.” Get the relevant answers in writing.
For sensitive work, follow your employer’s device and network policies. Neither a strong signal nor a private-looking room establishes compliance with those policies.
Check the room, not just the membership
- Sit in the chair for more than a quick tour and check the desk height.
- Look for glare on your screen and usable power outlets.
- Listen for music, nearby calls and noise from outside.
- Ask how meeting rooms are reserved and what happens when they are full.
- Confirm access hours, weekend arrangements and guest rules.
- Check the cancellation, renewal and deposit terms.
Bring your own non-negotiables to the comparison. If your day starts before the building opens, an otherwise excellent membership may not solve your problem. If meetings frequently run late, clarify evening access rather than assuming it is included.
Match the workspace to your Medellín base

Calculate the whole monthly cost
Compare membership, room credits, additional meeting hours, transport and any meals you buy only because you are away from the apartment. Divide the total by the number of days you expect to use the space—not the number of days in the month.
For example, an illustrative membership costing COP 400,000 and used for ten days costs COP 40,000 per used day before transport or extras. That is arithmetic, not a quote from a Medellín provider. Replace it with written prices for your shortlisted spaces.
A useful message to send before booking
I will be in Medellín from [date] to [date], working [hours]. I need [number] hours of private calls and a reliable connection for [type of work]. Please confirm desk access, meeting-room charges, backup arrangements and the complete price. Can I test the space before committing?
